“Pride and Prejudice” Ep 20: Park Man Geun Revealed

Park Man-Geun remains scary even once we know who he is. I wasn’t sure if the writer could reveal Park Man Geun’s identity without ruining his mystique. But finding out that the villain has been easy-going Prosecutor Choi all along gives him a new mystique. As some viewers have observed, Choi seemed the obvious candidate. … Read more

So close and yet so far. Sometimes “Pride and Prejudice” gets me by the throat—episode 5, say, or episodes 17 and 18. And sometimes the pieces don’t add up, like in episode 19. It’s a bumpy ride here as we close in on the finale. It does appear that “Pride and Prejudice” will have two … Read more

Pride and Prejudice Ep. 18

Call it the Choi Jin-Hyuk effect. I suspect they could make a show in which Choi Jin-Hyuk simply sits in front of the camera and reads the phone book, and I would still be completely mesmerized and watch every last minute and beg for more. At times “Pride and Prejudice” becomes a confusing wash of … Read more

Choi Min-Soo was channeling Chief Moon on Tuesday night. Instead of attending MBC’s end-of-year awards ceremony Dec. 30, the actor “respectfully declined” his acting award for “Pride and Prejudice.” His co-star Baek Jin-Hee read a statement from him, but was cut off in the middle before satisfying audience curiosity. Choi’s full statement has since then … Read more

Tuesday Update

Since there’s no “Pride and Prejudice” this week, we have another week to speculate about the mysterious corpse that just showed up.

Meanwhile, today you can check out my essay, “Subtitled Love Affairs: Why Millions of Americans Prefer Korean Television,” at the pop culture blog, the Hooded Utilitarian. The editor, Noah, is an interesting guy who writes about romances as well as comic books. Korean stuff goes under the radar here in the States, so I’m chiming in with some thoughts on K-dramas. Stop by and join the discussion.

You’ll see a few ads on the site these days, as I experiment with ways to pay for the endless supply of coffee that keeps me screen-capping into the wee hours. But I’m picky about what I advertise and I promise to stay classy.

Grandmother is annoyed that I never have time to write about her in the uncaps, so she gets her own screencap here. In one of my fantasy lives, I live at “Three Meals a Day” and grandmother forces me to eat delicious home-cooked dinners every day. We should all have this grandmother. I hope everyone gets some home-cooked food to celebrate the new year!

“Pride and Prejudice” Ep. 17

I love it when a plan comes together. This episode starts grim, but gives us a big dramatic payoff. The team arrest Director Lee for ordering Han Byul’s murder, our central couple get some cute moments together, and finally—finally!—everyone takes a nap. Well, everyone except Chief Moon, who never leaves the building and survives entirely … Read more
